The Kbis certifies that a company is registered in the Trade and Companies Register. It is the official identity document of every commercial company in France.
Essential for your administrative procedures
Opening a professional bank account, applying for a tender, signing a commercial lease, applying for financing: the majority of organisations require a recent Kbis.
All the key information about the company
Company name, registered office address, directors, share capital, activity, SIREN number, registration date: the Kbis brings together all the legal information about the company.
Valid for 3 months
To be accepted by administrations and partners, a Kbis must be less than 3 months old. It must therefore be renewed regularly to remain valid.

Frequently asked questions
Do you want to carry out an independent professional activity? Whether it is your main or secondary activity, it can be carried out as a sole trader provided it is compatible with the scheme. To register a micro-business, you must meet the following conditions: • Be at least 18 years old or be an emancipated minor; • Have an address in France; • Not be a self-employed worker under another scheme. Please note that non-EU foreign nationals can also register a micro-business if they hold a temporary residence permit that authorises self-employment on French soil.
The micro-business scheme is ideal for getting started simply. You benefit from streamlined registration formalities, simplified bookkeeping and a favourable tax system based on your actual turnover. The micro-business allows you to test your activity while limiting financial risk: if you earn no turnover, you pay no social contributions. It can also run alongside a salaried job or your studies.
Being a sole trader offers great freedom and flexibility: • Social contributions proportional to turnover (no income = no contributions); • A simplified tax system with the option of a withholding tax payment; • Minimal administrative burden, no complex accounting required; • The option to combine with a salaried job or studies; • No minimum capital required to get started.
The vast majority of activities are eligible for sole trader status: service provision (IT, consulting, training, translation…), commercial activities (buying and reselling goods), craft trades (plumbing, hairdressing, electrical work…) and unregulated liberal professions. Some activities remain excluded from the scheme: farming covered by the MSA, regulated medical professions, notaries, or activities exceeding the turnover thresholds.
The declaration is made online at autoentrepreneur.urssaf.fr, according to the frequency chosen at registration (monthly or quarterly). Even if your turnover is zero for the period, you must still declare 0. Social contributions are calculated automatically based on the revenue you have collected. Note: no professional expenses can be deducted under this scheme.
The first contributions are due as soon as you declare any turnover. The calculation is straightforward: a fixed rate is applied to your collected revenue. The main applicable rates are: • ~12.3% for the sale of goods; • ~21.2% for commercial service provision; • ~21.1% for liberal professions covered by the general scheme. If you declare zero turnover, you owe nothing.
