After creating your company: priority administrative steps

Congratulations, your company is officially created! But creation is only the beginning. Here are the steps to take as a priority in the days and weeks following your registration.
1. Open a business bank account
If you have created a company (SASU, SAS, SARL…), opening a bank account dedicated to your activity is mandatory. For sole traders, it is not legally required but strongly recommended to separate personal and professional cash flows.
Several online banks offer pro accounts for freelancers and small businesses, often with no account maintenance fees in the first year.
2. Register with social security organisations
After your registration with the one-stop shop, you will automatically receive your SIRET number. URSSAF will be informed of your creation. Make sure you have access to your URSSAF online account to track your declarations and contribution payments.
3. Take out mandatory or recommended insurance
Depending on your activity, some insurance policies are compulsory:
- Professional liability insurance (RC Pro): mandatory in many regulated professions and recommended for all
- Ten-year liability insurance: mandatory for building trade artisans
- Health insurance: if you have employees, you must offer a group complementary health policy
4. Release your share capital and organise your accounting
If you created a company with share capital, make sure the capital has been released to your business account. Set up an invoicing tool from the start and, depending on your regime, find an accountant to support you.
5. Promote your business
Create or update your Google Business Profile, reserve your domain name if you have not already done so, and inform your first clients of your new status. Online visibility is crucial to getting your business off to a good start.
6. Keep your founding documents safe
Store your Kbis or SIRENE notice, signed articles of association, SIRET number, and all correspondence with the registry or URSSAF in a safe place (both physical and digital). These documents will often be requested by partners and clients.
